Viking Range Corporation was founded in 1987 in Greenwood, Mississippi by Fred Carl Jr., a home builder who couldn't find a range powerful enough for serious home cooking. Carl engineered the first commercial-style range designed specifically for residential use and launched Viking at the 1987 KBIS kitchen and bath show. The Viking range was an immediate sensation, launching an entirely new product category — the professional-style home range — that Wolf, Thermador, and others eventually followed. Viking appliances are manufactured in Greenwood, Mississippi, making them one of the few major appliance brands still produced entirely in the United States. The Middleby Corporation acquired Viking in 2012 and has continued to invest in the brand's product development and manufacturing.
